What is the HEAR Program?
The Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) program is funded by the federal Inflation Reduction Act and administered in Wisconsin by Focus on Energy. It provides income-qualified households with a rebate on a cold climate heat pump system — applied as a credit on your Nimmer invoice at the time of installation. Not a tax credit. The rebate comes directly off your invoice the day we install.

Do I need a heat pump to qualify?
Not to start — you don’t need to already have a heat pump. What qualifies you for HEAR is installing one. If you’re due to replace your AC anyway, swapping it for a cold-climate heat pump (like the Bryant Crossover Series we install) is what unlocks the rebate, up to $8,000 depending on household income. Your existing gas furnace stays in place as backup, so it’s a straightforward AC replacement that happens to come with a major rebate attached.
Can a heat pump work in Wisconsin?
Yes, and better than most people expect. The cold-climate heat pumps we install are rated to operate efficiently down to -22°F, which covers nearly every Milwaukee and Waukesha County winter without a problem. Is this a tax credit?
No — a rebate credit applied directly to your invoice at install.
Can I finance the remaining balance?
Yes. Once your HEAR rebate is applied as an instant credit at installation, any remaining balance can be financed through Wells Fargo with approved credit — 0% APR for 36 months on Heat Pump Half Back and Max Back tiers, or 9.99% APR for 120 months on Standard and Dual Fuel systems. You’re only financing the net cost after your rebate, not the full system price.
What if the program changes?
Qualification is based on household income relative to the area median income (AMI) for Milwaukee or Waukesha County — not your credit score or how long you’ve owned your home. Households below 80% AMI get 100% back (up to $8,000); those between 80–150% AMI get 50% back. Renters qualify too, based on their own income, with property owner sign-off. The quickest way to find out is the Focus on Energy pre-qualification application — about 10 minutes with a recent tax return or pay stubs.
How do I know I qualify?

What income documents do I need?
Federal tax return pages 1 & 2, or 60 days of pay stubs. Government assistance? Just your award letter. Please scan your documents clearly — do not submit photos taken with your phone.
